Transitions from Work to Retirement: Developing a New Social Contract.

This report derives from a project funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation as part of its ‘Transitions after 50’ research initiative. The purpose of this report is to provide an assessment of the range of transitions affecting people as they move through their fifties and beyond.  At present, only limited work has been undertaken linking survey data to work – retirement pathways, theoretical models of development through the life course and sociological perspectives on the changing nature of work careers.  This report brings together these different elements to explore some of the complex changes now affecting older workers.
